More Costuming

I also found this gown on the website of the Indianapolis Museum of Art. It dates to 1760. I especially love the detailing, the lace, and the lovely blue color. Click on the images for a larger view.

In my next post, I’ll share images of a lovely deep red brocade.

  1. This gown is lovely! Its a "saque-back" gown. I recently learned that underneath the back pleats is an area to lace it closed. I love that fabric!

  2. I knew it was a saque-back, but I've never seen what's beneath the pleats. That makes sense, though. Thank you for that info. It may come in handy. This would be a great gown for my character Elizabeth to wear to a ball. :-)
